Description
If a person has a mental illness and therefore poses an acute danger to themselves or others, they may be involuntarily hospitalized. This means the affected person is admitted to and treated in a hospital’s psychiatric department against their will or without their consent. The legal basis for this is the law on involuntary hospitalization. Every person who is hospitalized against or without their will is provided with a patient advocate from VertretungsNetz. The patient advocate visits the hospitalized person as soon as possible. The patient advocates from VertretungsNetz work directly in psychiatric facilities but are independent from the hospital. They are bound by confidentiality. Their services are free of charge for patients.
