Description
Communication is at the core of inclusion. It is a basic need of every person to connect and communicate with others. For people with a congenital or acquired disability, who cannot communicate or speak understandably due to their condition, fulfilling this basic need is often very difficult. In everyday life, serious communication problems often arise between them and their social environment. However, having a disability does not mean that communication is impossible. There are many different ways to communicate; it can be a look or a gesture that allows us to express ourselves. Every person has the ability to communicate; we just need to understand and promote it. With this mindset, we aim to find an individual way to communicate for each of our users to help them lead an independent and self-determined life. Our staff purposefully uses individualized aids, strategies, and techniques that complement or replace spoken language, thus facilitating communication. Supported Communication (UK) is an umbrella term for many methods that enable people to assemble an individual communication system. This can be used to support and clarify spoken language or to find an alternative form of communication aside from verbal language.
