Description

Support for 24-Hour Care for People in Need of Assistance People who are cared for at home can receive financial support in the form of a grant for 24-hour care. To qualify, the person in need of care must receive care allowance from level 3 according to national regulations, and 24-hour care must be necessary. The income limit is EUR 2,500.00 net per month. The care must be provided according to the home care law in a private household. A home visit will check if the care is provided properly. This check is done by a qualified nurse from the "Quality Assurance in Home Care" center. The home visit is required for support. The grant can be paid for a maximum of one month retroactively from the application date. There is no legal right to this support. Support is available for employing two self-employed caregivers (with a contract) up to EUR 800.00 per month, or two employed caregivers (with an employment contract) up to EUR 1,600.00 per month. Additionally, since September 1, 2023, a new "28-day rule" is in effect. This means that an increased grant of EUR 800.00 per month can be given for just one caregiver if they provide care for at least 28 continuous days. Support for Family Caregivers The Social Ministry Service helps family caregivers who are unable to provide care due to illness or vacation. People who have primarily cared for close relatives for at least one year can apply for financial support. This is intended to help cover proven costs that the main caregiver had for replacement care. Another requirement is that the person needing care has been receiving care allowance from levels 3 to 7 for at least one year (for dementia patients and minors, this starts from level 1). Professional (e.g., short-term care in a nursing home) or private (e.g., care by another relative, friends, etc.) replacement care can be supported for up to four weeks per calendar year. The amount of support ranges from EUR 1,200.00 to EUR 2,200.00, depending on the care allowance level. If replacement care is used for a shorter time, the support is reduced accordingly. For dementia patients and minors, the support increases by EUR 300.00. Courses for Knowledge in Care and Support ("Care Courses") Grants can be given to close relatives of people eligible for care allowance from level 1 if they participate in one or more courses on care and support. The grant can also be used for online care courses. The maximum annual grant is EUR 200.00 per person in need of care. This funding aims to improve access to care courses, including training or professional guidance at home, by close relatives of people in need of care, making home care easier and helping to prevent physical and mental strain.
