Description
The disability pass serves as a photo ID that proves a disability and helps to obtain various benefits. It is issued for free. → What requirements do I need to meet? People with a degree of disability (GdB) or a reduction in earning capacity (MdE) of at least 50% who live or usually stay in Austria are eligible for a disability pass. → What do I need to do? Apply at the Social Ministry Service. You can find the application form on their website at this link: https://sozialministeriumservice.at/Menschen_mit_Behinderung/Behindertenpass_und_Parkausweis/Behindertenpass/Behindertenpass.de.html → What documents do I need to attach to my application? Current medical documents, such as reports or assessments (not older than 2 years), a color EU passport photo following ICAO rules, a valid residence permit (for non-EU citizens), and a current care allowance notice (if receiving care allowance). → What benefits does the disability pass provide me? • Reduced travel costs on ÖBB and public transport for those with a disability of 70% or more. • Tax exemptions for a disability of 25% or more (not applicable if receiving care allowance all year) and/or diet food (with special note in the disability pass). • Discounts at leisure and cultural facilities (always ask before buying tickets). • Possible exemption from tuition fees (check with your educational institution). A disability pass with the note "Unreasonable to use public transport due to permanent mobility restrictions from a disability" provides additional benefits: exemption from motor vehicle tax, discounts for car driver clubs like ARBÖ and ÖAMTC, Euro-Key (a key for accessing restrooms reserved for people with disabilities), and a free highway vignette. Note: The vehicle must be registered in the name of the person with the disability.
